God Of War Ragnarök: Valhalla - How to defeat Modi?

During the Game Awards 2023, Santa Monica Studios revealed the first major expansion for God Of War Ragnarök called Valhalla. The expansion is a free-to-play roguelike mode that takes place after the ending of the base game and follows Kratos embarking on a journey filled with self-reflection. The DLC gives players a deep dive into Kratos the person and his psychology.

The DLC contains a lot of easter eggs and references to the original God of War Trilogy as well as God of War 2018. One such reference is a boss fight with Thor's son Modi. The boss fight with Modi and Magni in God of War 2018 was one of the most memorable fights in the game and truly challenged the player's skill over Kratos' arsenal. The fight with Modi in the Valhalla DLC is also similar in this regard. Here is a guide that will help players overcome Modi more easily.

Modi reappears in the Valhalla expansion as a hallucination created by the Hall. Modi is far more dangerous in this hallucination than he is in God of War 2018. It also requires a lot of patience and calmness to defeat. He has a plethora of lighting-based abilities that can inflict a ton of damage on Kratos. Players need to dodge and showcase all their skills to avoid these attacks.

Modi's Special Attacks

Like Thor, Modi also wields Lighting and has 3 major ranged attacks that can stun players. They are:

• The first move that Modi uses to inflict damage on Kratos is a lighting beam that he shoots that stuns and damages Kratos over time. Players should try their best to avoid this, once players are hit by this beam they must frantically press the circle button to break free from this stunned form.
• Another move that Modi uses a lot consists of calling upon a plethora of lightning bolts that slowly approach Kratos. These are somewhat similar to homing missiles. Players must dodge and evade these bolts to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
• The last ranged move that Modi uses is the most dangerous. During this attack, Modi will pound his shield onto the ground which will lead to lighting raining down on the ground. All the areas that become red are places where lightning is raining down. Players will need to dodge away from the red zones to nullify this attack.

Assault with the full might of Kratos

Players must keep attacking Modi at every opportunity they get without mercy. After analyzing Modi's attack patterns, players must aggressively attack Modi with every opening they find to inflict damage and stun the mighty son of Thor. Once he is stunned players need to quickly get close to him and press R3 to execute a counter to deal substantial damage to him.

Players should use all the combat skills and tools that Kratos possesses to defeat Modi. The Draupnir spear comes especially in hand as it has homing abilities and can cause massive damage to Modi. This doesn't mean players should forget about the Leviathon axe and Blades of Chaos as they can be crucial as well to deal quick damage in close quarters.

Parrying Modi is also very beneficial as once parried he will be stunned for a moment, this gives players an opening to inflict damage rapidly. Attacks that are marked by a red aura cannot be blocked or parried, they must be dodged and evaded at all costs. In addition to that, players should try to grab as many of the healing stones as possible to keep them in the fight for as long as possible.
