New Update

Website trackers are small pieces of code that follow you around the web and collect data about your online activities, like which sites you visit and what you click on. This allows companies to build profiles on you to serve targeted ads. If you're concerned about your online privacy, you'll want to block these invasive trackers in your browser. In this article, I'll show you how to remove website trackers from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Note: To follow this guide first make sure that all your devices are updated to the latest version like iOS 17. iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma.

How to enable the feature to remove website trackers from Safari on Mac

1. Open the Safari on your Mac. Click on the name Safari in the upper left corner & then select Settings.

2. In the settings go to the Advanced option. Here next to Use Advanced Tracking and Fingerprint Protection, click the drop-down menu & then select the "In All Browsing" option.

How to enable the feature to remove website trackers from Safari on iPhone or iPad

By default, Advanced Tracking and Fingerprint Protection only shields your privacy in Safari's Private Browsing tabs. To fortify your defense against trackers across all your browsing activity, you need to enable the protection more widely.

Here are the steps:

  1. First launch Settings and tap the Safari option.

  2. Now scroll down and select the Advanced menu.

  3. Here under "Advanced Tracking and Fingerprint Protection", switch from "Private Browsing Tabs" to "All Browsing".

With this single toggle, you've now activated Safari's tracker blocking for all tabs and windows. Your browsing outside of Private Mode will now also be shielded from invasive cross-site tracking.

Clear Your Browsing History

An easy way to wipe out any existing tracking cookies is to manually clear your browsing history.

On iPhone/iPad:

  • Go to Settings & tap on Safari option & then tap on the "Clear History and Website Data"

On Mac:

  • Open Safari, from menu bar at the top go to History & click on the "Clear History" option.

This will wipe your cookies and browsing cache, removing any potential trackers that are lingering.

Use Private Browsing

Safari's Private Browsing mode prevents websites from linking your browsing activities together. Any cookies are deleted after you close the tab, making it harder for sites to track you. Just tap "Private" at the bottom of a new iOS Safari tab or window. On Mac, go to File > New Private Window.

Conclusion

Website trackers threaten our privacy by following us across the web. Fortunately, Apple has provided tools in Safari to limit this tracking. By enabling Advanced Tracking Protection and regularly clearing your history, you can take control of your online privacy. Private Browsing mode also helps by isolating each browsing session. With just a few simple steps, you can browse more securely on your Apple devices.
