How to Find Your Wi-Fi Password on Android

In our technology-filled world, we connect to Wi-Fi networks constantly throughout the day. Whether it's your home Wi-Fi, the office network, or a coffee shop hotspot, staying connected is important. But with all those Wi-Fi networks comes the hassle of remembering complicated passwords.

When that familiar network disappears from your Android phone, you're stuck entering a long, random password just to reconnect. Don't panic and try guessing - Android offers an easy way to view your saved Wi-Fi passwords right on your phone. With just a few taps, you can find and reconnect to that password-protected network.

Why someone might want to find their Wi-Fi password?

  • To connect a new device to the Wi-Fi network. This could be a new phone, computer, smart home device, etc. Without the password, these devices won't be able to get online.

  • Give the password to a friend or family member so they can access the Wi-Fi when visiting. This allows guests to easily get online without having to ask for the password each time.

  • To troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Sometimes resetting the connection by entering the password again can help solve problems like slow speeds or difficulty accessing certain sites. Knowing the password makes this troubleshooting easier.

  • To change the Wi-Fi settings like the network name or security type. The router admin interface typically requires entering the current password first before changes can be made.

  • To upgrade to a new router and reconnect devices. When getting a new router, you'll need the old Wi-Fi password to easily get all your devices connected to the new network.

  • To update the password or improve security. Periodically changing the Wi-Fi password and knowing the current one helps keep the network safe from unauthorized access by others.

How to Find Your Wi-Fi Password on Android

1. To start, open the Settings app on your Android device.  And in Settings, choose "Connections" - this manages all your network and internet connections.

2.  Next, select "Wi-Fi" to see your list of detected and saved networks.

3. Scroll and tap on the Wi-Fi network you need the password for & open its settings.

4.  On the network details screen, tap "QR code" near the bottom. This may also say "Share" on some devices.

5. You should now see a QR code for that network. Simply take a screenshot of this.

6. Now open the Google app on your device & tap on the Google lens icon.

7. Then select the QR code screenshot & it'll automatically scan it. Now within a few seconds, you'll see the password of your wifi at the bottom of your screen.

Conclusion

After following the outlined process above, you can easily find and reconnect to a password-protected network with only a tap or two. If "QR Code" is not an option, your Android device may not support viewing Wi-Fi passwords because it's only available on Android 10 & above. So if you're using an older device you can use third-party apps but getting passwords through them is not easy. They only work on the device with root access. And also keep in mind that public networks likely won't display the password. This feature works for your private saved networks.
