Top 5 Video Games Loved by Elon Musk

If you have been following Elon Musk on X, you might already know some of the games that he likes to play. Spoiler alert, Musk does not like the GTA games from Rockstar as he is against committing crimes, even in the virtual world!

Now, with that said, check out the list of the top 5 games that Elon Musk thinks you should play at least once in your gaming years:

1. Elden Ring

Developed by FromSoftware, Elden Ring is a popular action RPG, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki with the fantasy worldbuilding provided by the legendary Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin. The game was released back in February 2022, and Musk was quick enough to finish the entire game within the first three months of its release.

In May 2022, the X owner took to his own social media platform to share a post, highly praising Elden Ring and calling it "the most beautiful art" he has ever seen. You can check out his post on X attached right below:

Now, this post was shared by Musk after he bought Twitter but, according to reports, Musk was already a huge fan of the game. In fact, according to a statement by Grimes (Musk's intermittent partner) in Walter Isaacson's biography, Elon played Elden Ring till 5:30 in the morning after planning to make a bid for Twitter in 2022.

2. Cyberpunk 2077

While Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red did not get the reception that it was expecting when it was released in 2020, it improved significantly with the following updates and patches. However, for Musk, the game was special for two reasons: i) one of the Cyberpunk 2077 characters was voiced by Grimes, and ii) the game was all about pseudo-scientific concepts.

According to an anecdote in Walter Isaacson's biography, Musk raided one of Grimes' voiceover sessions and demanded a cameo in the game. The eccentric billionaire was apparently carrying a 200-year-old musket and told the developers that he was "armed but not dangerous!"

Although Musk did not bag a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077, the game certainly opened up something in his mind that urged him to invest his wealth to develop chips for the human brain. So, Musk founded Neuralink, a company dedicated to crafting generalized brain interfaces, which the billionaire thinks could enable technologies showcased in Cyberpunk 2077 in the future.

3. Overwatch 2

Created by Blizzard Entertainment, Overwatch 2 is a fast-paced FPS game that dominated the competitive space once upon a time. Although the game has been completely revamped with the release of Overwatch 2, Musk was a huge fan of the original title.

The Tesla chief once shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), boasting the "ultrafast team FPS action" that can be experienced in Overwatch. Although Musk did not initially reveal which of the characters he played in Overwatch, he eventually gave in and confirmed that he mained Soldier 76 in the game.

However, according to reports, Musk's favourite character in Overwatch was Mercy, a healing-focused, supportive agent. In fact, according to Walter Isaacson's biography, when Musk was with the Aquaman star Amber Heard, she commissioned a Mercy costume to 'roleplay' the Overwatch character. All of this was because Musk thought Heard resembled Mercy.

4. Battle of Polytopia

The Battle of Polytopia is a turn-based, strategy game that is available to play on mobile as well as on PCs. According to reports, Musk was a huge fan of the game and started playing it in 2021. The SpaceX CEO quickly became obsessed with the game, and even delayed business meetings for it, according to Isaacson's biography.

He even motivated his brother Kimbal Musk to start playing the game and told him that it would help him become a better CEO. In fact, Musk implemented a feature in Tesla Model 3 cars that allowed drivers to play The Battle of Polytopia while driving their cars, though it was disabled after the US regulators launched an investigation into the company regarding road safety issues.

5. Deus Ex

Elon Musk is a fan of older video games, and one of his favorites include Deus Ex. The action RPG game was initially released way back in 2000 and is set in a cyberpunk-themed dystopian world in the year 2052. It is considered one of the best video games of all time and Musk does not disagree with this fact.

At one point in time, the Tesla chief was obsessed with Deus Ex and even changed his Twitter profile picture to the Deus Ex poster.
