How to delete unwanted WhatsApp media from your Android phone

WhatsApp has become one of the most popular messaging apps, allowing users to easily share photos, videos, and files. However, the media you accumulate in WhatsApp can quickly eat up storage space on your Android phone. To free up storage, it is useful to know how to delete WhatsApp media, either from the main media storage or from specific chats. This article outlines step-by-step methods to help you remove unwanted WhatsApp photos and videos on an Android device. Learning these simple processes can help you save storage space when needed.

Method 1: Remove WhatsApp photos and videos from WhatsApp media

1. Open the WhatsApp application on your Android phone. Tap on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the app to open the menu. From the menu, select "Settings" to open the WhatsApp settings.

2. In the Settings menu, tap on "Storage and Data Usage" to manage your storage.

3. Under "Storage and Data Usage," tap on "Manage Storage" to view and manage the media stored in your WhatsApp media storage.

4. On the "Manage Storage" screen, select "Larger than 5 MB" from the dropdown menu to filter and display photos larger than 5 MB. This will help you find and delete large unwanted WhatsApp photos and videos more easily.

5. Scroll through the filtered list of large WhatsApp media files. Select the files you want to delete by tapping on them to display a checkbox. Once you have selected all the files you want to delete, tap on the trash can icon in the top right corner. A confirmation prompt will appear. Tap "DELETE" to permanently delete the selected media files from your WhatsApp media storage on your Android phone. This will free up storage space.

Method 2: Remove WhatsApp photos and videos from specific  WhatsApp chat

1. To delete photos and videos from a specific chat, first go to the "Manage Storage" screen in WhatsApp settings. On the Manage Storage page, scroll down to the "Chats" section. Here you will see a list of all your recent chats in WhatsApp that contain media attachments like photos and videos. Locate and tap the specific chat you want to delete media from.

2. The chat will open, showing all media ever shared in the chat. Tap and hold on a photo or video to select it, Use the checkboxes to select all the photos and videos in this chat that you wish to delete. You can tap each item individually, or use the "Select All" link at the top to select everything. After you select all unwanted media items in this chat you want to remove, tap the trash can icon at the top right corner. A confirmation message will appear - tap "DELETE" to permanently remove all the selected photos and videos.

Conclusion

Following the methods above, you can now easily delete WhatsApp media files that you no longer need. Deleting items larger than 5MB first can clear a lot of space quickly. Removing media from selected chats is also useful for getting rid of items you have already shared. Freed-up space means you can then continue using WhatsApp to chat and share files without worrying as much about managing storage. Keeping your WhatsApp media storage optimized helps ensure smooth usage of the app over time.
